People from Ridgewood Ranch came to thresh their hand-harvested foisy wheat on Friday and Monday. They fed their straw through our combine, which separates the grains from the husks, chaff, and straw. They made several trips from their Redwood Valley location, about 12 miles north of us. Is there a way to avoid the combine and effectively thresh?
I was surprised to find out that Ridgewood Ranch is the base of John Jaevens's work on biointensive farming! I knew that he was in California somewhere, but I had no idea he was this close to where I work. I couldn't resist taking the opportunity to visit their farm, which grows quinoa and, as a recent attempt, rice, between their trips to pick up foisy.

Two rice experiments
Sunchoke flower
Tobacco
Greenhouse. See Kiwis in the back?
Tobacco
Apple orchard
